An advanced directive is a statement you make regarding the medical care you would like in a particular situation prior to actually needing the care. There are different types of Advanced Directives. The most common are living wills and durable powers of attorney for healthcare. Both living wills and durable powers of attorney for health care are recognized by Nebraska law. If you are interested in more information or would like the above sample forms to fill out, please go to the following Department of Health and Human Services website: http://www.hhs.state.ne.us/ags/advdir.htm.
