Plans add surgical center to Fountain Springs

Fremont City Council members will get the first request for a commercial
development
for a new residential and commercial development north
of Fremont Mall when they meet at 7 p.m. today.
Council members will meet in the second floor council chambers
of the Fremont Municipal Building, 400 E. Military Ave. A study
session for the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Council members will consider a resolution to subdivide three acres
into a one-acre
and a two-acre tract for new medical offices. Plans
are on file with the city for a new Fremont Surgical Center.
Earlier this year, R.L. Fauss owner Rick Fauss announced plans
for a 40-acre, $40 million development featuring 34 “patio
homes,” 12 townhomes and 72 apartments. Plans also include
business offices, medical offices and other developments.
The housing development sits on the south end of the overall development,
which will be on the southwest corner of 32nd Street and Yager
Road. A map shows the Fremont Surgical Center facility on the southwest
side of the development on East 29th Street.
In another matter, council members will decide on a resolution
to allow city staff to advertise for bids for the first phase of
the MainStreet of Fremont historical lighting project. The first
phase of the project is expected to cost nearly $98,000.
In February, council members approved an agreement with the Nebraska
Department of Roads for the project.
In a letter to the city council in February, MainStreet of Fremont
executive director Leslie Carter said the organization received
a $50,000 grant from Transportation Enhancement Funds through the
Nebraska Department of Roads to help fund the project.
The rest of the funding for the first phase will come from money
raised during the 2004 Fremont: Big Fish of the Platte fund-raiser,
Carter added. Phase one of the project will light Main Street from
Sixth to Fifth streets and Sixth Street from Main to Broad streets.
The time frame for completing the entire project is still up in
the air, she said.
“A lot of that will depend on how much money awarded next
year,” she said. “The
grant money we have now is
from 2005 funding. Once the lights go up, we hope people
will
be excited and want to help us get the project finished quicker
by sponsoring a
light.”
The goal of the project is to have historical lighting along
Main Street from Sixth to First streets, stretching a couple
of blocks east and west of Main Street, she said. |
